Kevin Jennings | Board President

Kevin Jennings is the owner and operator of Urban Food Group, a collection of highly successful restaurants throughout Raleigh and Charlotte.  He owns Fraisers Wine Bar and Porters City Tavern on Hillsborough Street.  Fraisers first opened 13 years ago and both restaurants are affiliated with the HSCSC.  Mr. Jennings has been a resident of Raleigh for 14 years and lives here with his wife Stacey and their two children Campbell and Wade.  He is currently serving his 2nd term as the inaugural president of HSCSC and is very pleased to see the growth of Hillsborough Street.  He moved here during an interesting phase of the street and is happy to see it thrive.  He boasts that the street is “100 times better and still has plenty of room to grow”.

 

 

Thomas Crowder, AIA | Board Vice President

thomas crowder board member hillsborough streetThomas Crowder, a native of Raleigh, is currently serving his 4th term on the Raleigh City Council, representing District D, referred to as the “Capital City’s Creative District”.  Mr. Crowder is an accomplished architect with over 37 years experience and has received numerous design awards including those on the local, state, and regional level.  He has worked at various architect firms prior to forming his own company, ARCHITEKTUR, in 1993.  Councilor Crowder also authored the City Councils first Mission Statement.  He is an Eagle Scout and continues his involvement with the organization by serving as an Executive Board Member of the Occonneechee Council Boy Scouts of America since 2003.

 

 

Ralph Recchie | Treasurer

Ralph Recchie is the Director of Real Estate for NC State University.  Aside from overseeing approximately 107,000 acres of land that the University and its various entities own statewide, Mr. Recchie serves as both the Treasurer of the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation and the Chair of the University’s Hillsborough Street Task Force.  He made his way to the Raleigh area in 2006 from Ohio where he was responsible for the assignment of over 30 million square feet of university facilities at Ohio State.  He is a graduate of Ohio Dominican University and also attended Bowling Green State University.   

 

 

 

Dan Howe

dan howe board member hillsborough street Dan Howe is Assistant City Manager for the City of Raleigh.  He gained his Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture in the College of Design at NCSU, and an undergraduate degree in City Planning from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.  Dan was a graduate research assistant with the University Neighborhood Planning Council when the first plan for the Hillsborough Street corridor was developed in 1984, and as an Urban Designer with the City he wrote the ordinance creating the Pedestrian Business Overlay District for the area.  He is an avid hiker and cyclist, having hiked the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Dan lives in Five Points with his wife Loretta, daughter Linnea (13) and a Labrador Retriever named Luna.  Son Sam (21) is a senior at ASU in Boone.

 

Alan Lovette

Alan Lovette is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is the owner of Lovette Development, a company specializing in both housing and retail development.  He is the Chair of the Hillsborough Street Merchants Committee which helps organize and communicate with the merchants on the street.  Mr. Lovette has been the owner of Melvin's Cheeseburgers and 5 O'clock Sports Bar on Hillsborough Street for seven years and has enjoyed seeing them grow.  His affinity for the street and the university runs deep, his son is a graduate of NC State, Alan is a frequent attendee at State sporting events and he looks forward to seeing the entire NC State and Hillsborough Street Community continue prosper.

 

Joseph Boisvert

joe boisvert board member hillsborough streetJoe Boisvert has served as the Neighborhood Representative to the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation since 2010.  During that time, he served on the Parking Committee and was involved in the planning and execution of the Live it Up - Grand Reopening in 2010 - which earned a Neighborhood Recognition Award from the Raleigh Citizens Advisory Council.   Joe is also the President of the University Park Homeowners Association - the residential area to the North of NCSU campus.  He has been involved with the board since moving to the neighborhood in 2005.  Joe studied at The University of South Alabama & Tulane University (undergraduate) and The University of Oregon (graduate) and his professional experience is in Management, Consulting and Business Development - catering to the Logistics and Supply Chain Management industry.  Joe loves live music and can frequently be found enjoying a band performing on Hillsborough Street.

Dan Adams

Dr. Adams joined NC State University in December of 2009 as associate vice chancellor, Campus Enterprises – the lead division of retail and hospitality organizations.  In addition to university dining, bookstores and trademark licensing his responsibilities also encompass oversight of the $120M Talley Student Center renovation, the Lonnie Poole golf course and future clubhouse as well as the future conference center hotel on Centennial Campus.  Adams came to NC State from the University of Arizona where he served as associate vice president of the Division of Student Affairs.  A native of Delaware, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Appalachian State University and a doctorate in education administration and counseling from West Virginia University.

 

 

 

 

George Chapman

george chapman board member hillsborough streetGeorge Chapman served from 2006 to 2009 as the Chair of the Hillsborough Street Partnership, a non-profit, volunteer based organization formed to promote the revitalization of the Hillsborough Street corridor in Raleigh, NC.  It was created in the 1990's and now serves as a mechanism to continue public input to the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation. Mr. Chapman previously became involved with the revitalization of Hillsborough Street when he was Planning Director of the City of Raleigh until 2005.  He is a graduate of the UNC Department of City and Regional Planning and the College of William and Mary, in Virginia.  He lives with his wife in Raleigh, where they operate Woodburn Cottage, a small inn which he describes as a “life style Bed and Breakfast”.  In spite of his affiliations with that other university to the West, Mr. Chapman remains an ardent Wolfpack supporter, having been a neighbor for more than 30 years!

 

Nina Szlosberg

Nina Szlosberg-Landis is a civic leader who is currently in her third term as an At-large member of the NC Board of Transportation representing environmental issues. In 2000, Nina founded and continues to serve on the board of the nonprofit organization "The Hillsborough Street Partnership' which has successfully organized the community around the revitalization of historic Hillsborough Street.  In 2001, the NC Chapter of the American Planning Association named her "Citizen Planner of the Year".  In 2003, Nina was selected as one of ten Eisenhower Fellows in the United States.  Currently, she serves as President of the NC League of Conservation voters and Chairs its Political Action Committee. Nina lives just blocks off Hillsborough Street and can frequently be spotted riding her bike throughout the community.

 

 

Jason Barron
Board Counsel

As the attorney for the Board of Directors for HSCSC since 2009, Jason Barron has aided in the growth and development of Hillsborough Street first hand.  Mr. Barron focuses his practices on land use and zoning, commercial real estate, and land use litigation.  He has also demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles.  He earned his undergrad at NCSU and his J.D. at Wake Forest University.  Along with assisting the HSCSC board, Mr. Barron also lends his services to the North Carolina Triangle Chapter of the United States Green Building Council.
