Historically Raleigh’s “Main Street”, Hillsborough continues to deliver visitors directly to the heart of our community. Apart from its proximity to downtown, Hillsborough Street is the gateway to North Carolina State University, with over 30,000 students and hundreds of visitors every day. Hillsborough Street’s quiet bars and coffee shops provide a meeting space for campus groups and young leaders from Raleigh’s many universities.

Plans for Hillsborough’s redevelopment focus on converting the area from a thorough-fare to a cultural destination. The neighborhoods surrounding Hillsborough are home to many of Raleigh’s leaders and community activists, and the numerous parks, theatres and local hang-out spots draw visitors from all over the triangle. By supporting lighter, more fluid traffic, more parking, and a more green and pedestrian-friendly atmosphere, the Hillsborough Street Partnership hopes to strengthen the street’s appeal and reaffirm Hillsborough’s place in Raleigh citizens’ lives.
