Raleigh’s “Green Street”

The cornerstone of the initiative is to minimize our impact on natural resources and our local ecosystem in order to provide quality of life for future generations. Supporting public transit, recycling, energy conservation, and renewable energy are a few ways the Street is looking to reach this goal.

  • PUBLIC TRANSIT: CAT, Wolfline (free to the public!) and TTA buses serve Hillsborough Street more efficiently than any other area in the Triangle. Ride the bus to support clean air, keep the street uncluttered, and save money.
  • RECYCLING: The Partnership is investigating the implementation of a recycling program on the street.
  • ENERGY CONSERVATION: The redesign project will make walking and bicycling more viable means of campus transportation, reducing the use of power for transportation. In addition, low energy consumption devices, such as the LED streetlights proposed for the Redesign Project, are being considered.
  • RENEWABLE ENERGY: Progress Energy now allows customers to buy their electricity solely from Renewable resources through its program NC GreenPower. Using solar and wind sources helps to reduce harmful pollution in our own region.
