On the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001 NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson lead the campus and community in memorial service at the Belltower recognizing and honoring all those who perished in the tragic events on 9/11. The service paid tribute to all NCSU alumni who have served in the military. To coincide with this event, the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation enlisted the help of over 35 NCSU student groups and organizations to decorate the store-fronts on Hillsborough Street with patriotic imagery. These groups volunteered their time to show their support for, and appreciation of, all the first responders and citizens who lost their lives on that fateful day in 2001. They also thanked all the troops who have served and continue to serve our country in the armed services. The merchants of Hillsborough Street lent their support and were more than happy to provide window space for the student groups to express their creativity while honoring our fallen citizens. Ihab Latif, owner of That’s Amores Pizza, said “I am grateful to all the students who came out to paint the storefronts. I was a citizen of New York City for many years before moving down here so this tribute is very special to me”. Thank you to all the students, groups, and merchants who participated as part of this important event.
