Here at Live it Up! Hillsborough Street, our merchants are no strangers to what it takes to be exceptional. As a veteran of Hillsborough Street, FedEx has had the unique opportunity to be a key partner of NC State, as well as grow alongside the Raleigh community.
According to Keith Rinaldo, senior center manager of the Hillsborough Street FedEx, the store has been a local to Hillsborough Street since 1983, making it the oldest center in Raleigh. The center has experienced steady profits during its time on Hillsborough Street and, according to Rinaldo, the store brings in about two million dollars in sales each year.
While Hillsborough Street often sees heavy traffic, FedEx does have a few additional advantages over competition with their location on the busy street.
“We do a lot of shipping and printing around Hillsborough Street,” Rinaldo said. “There are very few shipping options up and down the street and there is not a big box retailer posing as competition.”
While Phase II construction has closed sidewalks and congested traffic flow, FedEx has found enhanced customer service is the key to maintaining a core client base from local universities and residents who are within walking distance of the front door.
“The universities haven’t stopped doing business with us because we have resources that they need, but we are probably talking about 10% to 15% less customer traffic overall which is a big number for us.”
Luckily, the store has faced many changes on Hillsborough Street over the years and has continued to adapt and provide quick, friendly service. Adding even more to the speed and convenience of the center, the location is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week until May when it plans to reduce its hours.
“Though it has been a bit difficult, we definitely understand that the construction is necessary for the street to look better,” Rinaldo said.
