Tasty Tuesday: David's Dumplings

Kate Gray

Are you ready to embark on a culinary adventure? There's always that one place you've been eyeing, but somehow never managed to visit. For me, that place was David’s Dumplings. After much anticipation, I finally stepped into this culinary gem, and let me tell you, it instantly became one of my top spots to dine!

Located conveniently at the corner of Hillsborough Street and Oberlin Road, David’s Dumpling and Noodle Bar has been serving up culinary delights since 2010. Founded by the esteemed Chef David Mao, a culinary pioneer in Raleigh since 1976, this eatery promises a unique blend of flavors inspired by Chinese, Vietnamese, and Malaysian cuisines.

As soon as you glance at the menu, you can sense the authenticity and care put into each dish. While the options are plentiful, one cannot visit without trying the signature “David's Original Half-Fried Dumplings.” Packed with a tantalizing mix of Pork, Napa Cabbage, Green Onions, Oyster Sauce, Sesame Oil, and Ginger Soy Sauce, these dumplings are a revelation in flavor and texture.

During my visit, my companion opted for the Sesame Chicken, which left us both mesmerized by its aroma and taste. Meanwhile, I indulged in the signature David's Fried Rice with Shrimp & Chinese Sausage, a dish that redefined my expectations of fried rice with its unparalleled flavor and consistency. The generous portions ensured that we had enough for a delightful second meal later on.

What truly sets David’s Dumplings apart is their flexibility and inclusivity. With options to substitute proteins at no extra charge and the option to upgrade to shrimp for a nominal fee, they cater to every palate and preference with finesse.

If you're searching for a culinary escapade that promises satisfaction, look no further than David’s Dumplings. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
