Tasty Tuesday: Gonza Tacos y Tequila

By Lindsey Hall, Events and Tourism Intern

For this week's Tasty Tuesday, I had the pleasure of visiting my favorite Mexican restaurant in Wake County, Gonza Tacos y Tequila. This modern, yet eclectic spot is conveniently located under Aloft Raleigh and has beautiful views of NC State's Bell Tower, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch with friends or a romantic date night.

Gonza Tacos y Tequila has five locations in the Raleigh-Durham area and even offers the "Gonza on Wheels" food truck that customers can book for special events. Their award-winning cuisine consists of Mexican fare with a Colombian twist, hand-crafted Latin cocktails and a wide variety of tequilas and spirits. With numerous accolades under their belt, including 2019 Indy Week wins for the best guacamole and taqueria in the Triangle, it's no wonder every time I visit Gonza, it's filled with eager, hungry customers. During my most recent visit, I arrived at the peak of lunch and was seated in no time by the friendly staff.

During my previous visits I've ordered their delicious chicken quesadilla and enchiladas con mole, but I wanted to try one of their other mouthwatering dishes this time. I asked my waiter what some popular dishes were and she recommended their tacos. After looking over their abundant list of options, I decided to try their pollo tacos with a side of rice. The tacos included chicken, cheese, pico de gallo, and sliced avocado on top. The chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned, whereas the pico de gallo added texture & spice and the sliced avocado was fresh & creamy. It was the perfect balance of ingredients to make a delicious taco. Their made in-house rice was cooked just right and was the perfect finish to my meal.

With the beautiful views, relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff and exquisite food and drinks, I know I'll have many more visits to this popular Hillsborough Street spot.
