Tasty Tuesday: Smashed Waffles
It is my pleasure to announce that the very first edition of Tasty Tuesday for the year features the brand new Smashed Waffle! Smashed serves up a variety of creative, fresh waffles every single day that are sure to remind you of your childhood. Located at 2304 Hillsborough St., the location serves as a prime location as it sits directly across from the busy NC State campus.
Smashed is the brainchild of founders Justin Cox and Hunter Harrison who describe themselves as “just two dudes from NC on a quest to make the best waffle ever tasted.” I can tell you, they deliver on that goal. First you walk in to the restaurant and are greeted by the wonderful smells of syrup and freshly ground coffee. You first see a display case of all different kinds of fresh waffles they are serving up for the day, just making your mouth water as you decide what to order.
Since it was the middle of the day, I was a bit hungry and decided to opt for both savory and sweet. I ordered one “OG” waffle, with each waffle they have being about the size of doughnut, and I also ordered the “Happy-Go-Lucky” waffle-wich. The OG was crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside, bringing me back to my childhood days of my dad making waffles and pancakes on Saturday mornings. My waffle-wich comprised of two waffles serving as buns with fried chicken, bacon and melted cheddar cheese graciously layered between. Safe to say I finished it in seconds.
Smashed is open Sunday-Thursday from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm and on Friday and Saturday open from 6:00 am to Midnight. Come on by and check out this tasty addition to Hillsborough St. in the bottom of The Hillsborough apartments!
