Mitch Danforth
Mitch was born and raised in Raleigh, spending many days after school on Hillsborough Street at the Alexander YMCA as a competitive swimmer. After serving as the Student Body President of Enloe High School, Mitch accepted the Park Scholarship to attend NCSU. Since that time, he has been involved with the evolution of Hillsborough Street in a variety of roles.
During college, Mitch served as a trustee of the Hillsborough Street Partnership as a student representative. His involvement led him to serve as the Director of the Hillsborough Street Commission with Student Government. Here, he planned progressive dinners on the street, educated students about planned improvements to the street, and organized students to communicate their support of the renovation project to the Raleigh City Council.
Transitioning from college to the professional world, Mitch worked as an engineering analyst with Kimley-Horn, the civil engineering firm planning the streetscape and roadway improvements along the street from Oberlin Road to Gardner Street. During this time, Mitch also redesigned the partnership's website and designed a new website for the street improvement project.
As the long-awaited project neared completion and the new Business Improvement District took form, Mitch helped the office to establish itself technologically. Soon after, he partnered with Geocentric to build the street's new website. He continues to be involved with the HSCSC to this day, working alongside the staff and interns as a web and graphic designer.
Outside of Hillsborough Street, Mitch works as an independent designer in three core areas: graphic&web, home&interior, and photo&video. He is in the midst of completing a full-scale renovation to his 1940s residence in Downtown Raleigh. Although Raleigh will always remain his home, Mitch hopes to take flight in the world of television, bringing enthusiasm for many types of design to the screen.
