Details

Ozzie Johnson of Marietta, Georgia, has traveled extensively in China, Vietnam, and, particularly in Japan, where he has made connections with Japanese nurserypersons, searching for new ornamentals for their U.S. counterparts. He has visited gardens, nurseries, and natural areas seeking to understand what "new" plants will grow in the U.S. Southeast. Ozzie has visited most of the islands in Japan to get an overview of the great plant diversity of that country. Some of his introductions include Mahonia 'Soft Caress ', Hydrangea 'Big Daddy ', and Begonia 'Dark Side of the Moon '. His lecture will focus on some of the plants he has seen and the nurseries he has visited over his many years of travel there.

Cohosted by the Piedmont Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society and the JC Raulston Arboretum.
