Super Hero Spotlight - Roger, Umami

Meet Roger Pekayoo, the owner of Umami Asian Bistro!

"Opening a restaurant has always been a passion project. After culinary school, it is a dream to one day have your own place to show off your skills. After having four other businesses, Umami is the place of my dreams." ~ Roger

Fun Facts:

  • Favorite colors: black & red
  • Language lesson: "Umami," a word the Japanese use to refer to the fifth element of taste, roughly translates to "deliciousness"
  • Fun fact: The brick & mortar restaurant concept was first started on a very successful food truck, which still serves the Triangle area!

Umami is a place for students to hang out and for the community to unwind. With an ever-evolving menu of Asian cuisine (including sushi), there's something for everyone. In the future, there will be live music and a DJ to entertain the Hillsborough Street community in the evening hours.
