Tasty Tuesday: Sushi Tsune

By Mollie Lambrecht, Communications Intern

This week’s Tasty Tuesday features Sushi Tsune of Kyoto with their unbeatable lunch and sushi specials. This hidden gem is located by the intersection of Hillsborough Street and Gorman Street, between Arby’s and the BP gas station. As you would expect for a popular authentic sushi spot, it was quite busy with groups of coworkers and friends catching up over delicious Japanese cuisine.

The friendly wait staff is very welcoming and invite you to sit wherever you prefer. I sat at the bar, watching the sushi chef in amazement as he effortlessly pieced together beautiful sushi creations of all types. The staff did a superb job checking on every table and keeping all the customers satisfied.

I decided on the tempura and teriyaki chicken box, a lunch special that includes a variety of menu items which allows you to sample different creations from the kitchen. The wonton soup was one of the best that I’ve had in a while, and it was the perfect starter to a flavorful entrée. The lunch box came out with beautiful fruits and a salad topped with the house ginger dressing that made the dish burst in colors and flavors.  The sautéed chicken and shrimp tempura were prepared to perfection with individually specialized flavors that paired wonderfully together!

The cozy atmosphere created a comfortable and welcoming feel with Japanese décor that gave the place its unique character.  One of the restaurant's many noteworthy features is the traditional Japanese dining area with low tables and floor cushions, which allows guests to enjoy a true authentic experience. The next time I plan for an evening out with friends, I’ll be sure to request seating there! If you’re looking for a relaxing space to enjoy a fresh and authentic Japanese meal, be sure to try out Sushi Tsune!
