Tasty Tuesday: Coco Bongo
Coco Bongo is a vibrant and authentic Mexican restaurant located in the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina. Since its opening, Coco Bongo has become a vital part of North Carolina State University’s atmosphere! It is the place to be on a Tuesday for $1.29 tacos, and for those over the age of 21, a margarita for $5.50 on Tuesday and Thursday!
Coco Bongo is probably one of my favorite places to go on Hillsborough, and has been ever since my freshman year because it is affordable and always a good time! It is known that when you go to Coco Bongo, you will probably run into at least one person you know...if not 10. Be careful on a Tuesday; the line will be out the door, but that doesn’t mean you will be waiting for long as they always seem to find a table for your group. They just redesigned the inside of the restaurant a little, with all new booths and a reconfiguration of tables to be able to accommodate even more people.
Coco Bongo is not just for students though; they have options for everyone. When you go in during lunch, you will almost always see non-students, business lunches, or families. You can always count on your food coming out quickly if you are in a time crunch, and it being delicious. One of my favorites at Coco Bongo is the make-your-own combo option with three items. It is only $10.99, and you get to choose from a variety of items, and you get rice and beans as well! The last time I went, I tried the Thursday lunch Pelusa special, which is going to become one of my new favorites! It was so good with more flair than regular Arroz Con Pollo (which is delicious all on its own) by adding in peppers, corn, onions, and tomatoes along with the rice, chicken, and cheese. If you aren’t that hungry, they also offer à la carte menu items as well.
My friends and I love stopping by Coco Bongo for Thursday Margaritas to relax after a long week of school and work, but we always leave after eating way more than we planned. Stop by Coco Bongo and try out the different lunch specials, and find a favorite menu item for yourself!
