Inside Scoop On Small Business Saturday

By Sana Saeed, Communications Intern

Black Friday isn’t the only holiday shopping to get excited about - Small Business Saturday is where it’s at. Held annually since 2010 to get communities out in support of their favorite small business, this year’s event falls on Saturday, November 24th. A visit to the family-owned framing shop or a stop at the neighborhood taco truck not only supports our local economies, but also promotes thriving communities.

Personally, I think it’s an amazing way to support the local businesses in your area. I recently had the chance to get to know some of these local business owners up close through our virtual campaign for SBS and it was a delightful experience.

It’s fascinating to get to see what really goes on behind-the-scenes, and it was amazing to see the amount of hard work, dedication and consistency these business owners put in to keep the show running each and every day.

Every small business owner I interviewed had a different story to tell (see those stories here). One built it all from scratch, another started it as a hobby, and some started their businesses so they could give back to the community. Hearing these owners talk about how they all started with a dream and turned it into their own reality was truly inspiring.

The reason they are where they are today is because of all of the wonderful people who shop locally!

Working on this project truly showed me how strongly we can impact their small businesses. Trust me, it may not make a huge difference to you to opt for a drink at Lucky Tree instead of Starbucks, but it goes a long way for our small business owners.

Just by making these small changes, we are helping these small business owners excel to their best and doing our own parts to help our community.

So why not spread your love locally?

We may have a wide variety of different small businesses in our areas, but let me tell you one thing, they all share one common goal – giving back to their community. Because when they thrive, we all thrive.
